Psalm 1:2

“But whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.”

Praise the Lord, my friend,

In the above verse, there’s a word “delight” that comes around 50 times in the NIV Bible. (I asked Claude 😅)

But exactly what does it mean?

Well, when we Google its meaning, we get this:

So, when Psalm 1:2 talks about having delight in the law of the Lord, does it mean reading the Bible with a smile on our faces?

Well, the word of God tells us this:

Joshua 1:8 says:

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.”

In the above verse, God tells Joshua to keep His Word on his lips, meditate on it day and night, and be careful to do everything written in it.

And if we connect this with Psalm 1:2, we can understand what delighting in the law of the Lord means, my friend.

And it is definitely not just about feeling happy while reading the Bible because we completed 10 chapters.

Instead, it is more about how much importance we give to His Word.

Because when something is important to us, we don't just listen to it and move on.

We allow it to have a say in our decisions, my friend.

For example, when the Bible tells us to forgive someone, delighting in God's Word means that we don't just agree with the verse and then continue holding on to the anger.

We try to forgive because God has asked us to.

I know it is easier said than done, and in real-life scenarios it is really difficult to forgive someone who hurt you badly.

Or walk away from something or someone because it didn’t align with the Word of God.

But my friend, obedience is not always easy.

There will be incidents when we don't like what the Word of God says, but we still need to follow it.

And I think that is what it means to truly delight in the law of the Lord.

We value His Word, trust what He says, and choose to follow it.

May He give us the wisdom to do it.

And may His will be done in our lives.
