God Did Not Leave You

What Guilt Gets Wrong About His Love.

Psalm 34:18

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Praise the Lord, my friend,

The above verse sounds so comforting and reassuring, no?

Our Lord is close to the brokenhearted…absolutely true.

But even after knowing this truth, many of us believe that after we sin, God steps back from us or looks at us with anger.

We may never say it out loud, but deep inside, we feel like we have disappointed Him one too many times.

And, this way of thinking comes from how the world treats failure.

We see people withdraw love, bring up past mistakes, and use guilt to control behavior.

So, over time, we start to see God the same way through our worldly eyes.

But we forget that God has created the world and He is not shaped by it.

Lamentations 3:22 - 23

“Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

You see, scripture shows us again and again that His love is steady, even when we are not.

My friend, His love does not disappear after a bad choice, and His mercy does not run out when we fall into the same struggle again.

Even so, guilt has a way of twisting our thoughts.

It convinces us that God is distant and disappointed, and it pushes us to hide instead of drawing near.

This is exactly what happened in the Garden of Eden, no?

Adam and Eve hid, but God came looking for them.

And, we all know that He did not leave them in their shame, and He has not changed since then.

Romans 8:38-39 tells us exactly that:

Romans 8:38-39

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So how do we stop seeing God as someone who uses our guilt against us?

Well, we begin by learning to trust His character instead of our feelings.

Our minds are deceiving, my friend. At one point we are thinking something and the next minute its complety different.

As a result, the feelings we have tend to rise and fall constantly, but God remains faithful always.

Therefore, when we sin, He does not ask us to stay away until we feel worthy again.

Instead, He asks us to come back to Him with full confidence.

Hebrews 4:16

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

But what does confidence mean here?

Is it doing anything we want and then asking for forgiveness, knowing that He will forgive because He loves us?

Not at all, my friend.

Confidence here means talking to Him about our sins without fear of being pushed away.

He came down for us and took that cross for you and me.

We should have confidence in the blood that was shed on that cross of Calvary, which is capable of washing away any sin.

But at the same time, God’s love is not something we take lightly, my friend

Romans 2:4

“God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance.”

My friend, God’s grace is not an excuse for us to keep choosing sin without care.

I know sometimes it is really hard, and we are just on the verge of falling into temptation even after trying really hard to resist it.

During such times, let us try to focus our eyes on God rather than testing our willpower.

We couldn’t do it on our own thats why He gave His life for us, my friend.

So, let us submit everything in His hands and do things that make Him smile.

And, if you ever fail, know that Jesus loves you and He is knocking at the other side of the door and waiting for you to open it.

Let Him in so that He can heal, restore, and transform you.

Let’s pray together

Lord, thank You for loving me even when I mess up. Thank You for not turning away from me when I fall into sin.

Help me to believe that You are close to me and not angry with me.

Teach me to come back to You with an honest heart and to trust Your forgiveness.

Please change my heart so I do not take Your love lightly, but choose to obey You because I love You.

Help me walk in Your ways each day, Father. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Praise God.
