Praise the Lord, my friend.

At the end of March, I attended a Forge workplace event.

During one of the sessions, one of the delegates asked the facilitator a question about getting tattoos.

It was an interesting question because the answer was not simply yes or no.

So, instead of giving a straight answer, the facilitator asked:

“What do you think? Is it God glorifying?”

I really liked that question because there are many things in our faith journey where we do not have a clear yes or no.

We know what the Bible clearly calls right and what it clearly calls wrong.

But then there are things where we find ourselves asking, “Is this okay?”

And many of us get stuck there, my friend.

Take masturbation or alcohol consumption, for example.

All Christians have different views about it, and Scripture does not give us a verse that directly says, “Do not masturbate or don’t drink alcohol.”

So it is easy to make the whole discussion about whether we can call it a sin or not.

But if we only look for a clear rule, we can miss the important question, and that is:

Does this glorify God?

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 10:31:

❝

1 Corinthians 10:31

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

You see, that puts things in a different perspective.

So, when there is no clear yes or no, the decision we make says something about our relationship with God.

Therefore, in those grey areas it is really important to ask what we are choosing, why we are choosing it, and whether that choice is bringing us closer to God.

❝

Proverbs 14:12

“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”

And, amidst all this decision-making, our minds might try to convince us that it is the right thing even when it is not.

Sometimes, we become so convinced that our decision is right that we stop questioning it.

And, rather than honestly seeking God's will, we try to find reasons to justify what we want to do, and before we know it, we are looking for answers that agree with us

That is why we need to be honest with ourselves when we face these decisions, my friend.

So, the next time we find ourselves in a grey area, let us remember the question asked at Forge:

“What do you think? Is it God glorifying?”

May His will be done in our lives.

Share with Prayer:

We don’t know who needs to see the above video in this moment, but God does, my friend.

So let us share it with a prayer.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your Word and for the way You continue to guide us as we grow in You.

Lord, when we face decisions where the answer is not clear, please give us wisdom and help us look at our choices with honest hearts.

Keep us from simply justifying what we want, and teach us to seek what brings glory to Your name.

Help us trust Your guidance, even when it means letting go of something we desire.

Father, we also lift up everyone who will receive the message shared through.

You know what each person is going through and what is happening in their hearts.

Please let this message reach the person who needs to hear it today.

May this simple act of sharing plant a seed in someone's heart, and may that seed grow according to Your will.

In Jesus’ precious name, we pray.

Amen.
